“Luigi” is a contemporary and sculptural work that plays with the expression of the face and its many subtleties.
It is characterized by a bust with personality and highly defined features, a set of facial expression that is on the border of seriousness and sketched smile, without being a definitive expression.
The work revolves around the controversial work “La Gioconda”, the smile/no smile. This time formalized as a male and contemporary aesthetics: young man, thin, with long hair tied in a bun.
She is endowed with a gaze that seeks to communicate with the viewer and makes direct eye contact when she meets him, through her gaze and the outline of a smile, which, while still containing a serious and observant personality, conveys a feeling and a message that remains in the link between the two.
This work was selected from among more than 300 international artists at the 55th Queen Sofia Prize, held in Madrid, and presided over by H.M. Queen Sofia. The selected works were part of an exhibition at the Casa de Vacas Cultural Center in Madrid’s Retiro Park in March 2020.
